A brief synopsis of the problem:
The network is very unstable from MIT to outside.  And I believe the problem
is possiblly at the site of MIT, since I have the following happen at almost 
at the same time:

[CUNIXB.CC.COLUMBIA.EDU]connect: Network is unreachable 
M11-116-12% date
