possible solutions:
- write a "watch-out-for-you" version of 'compress'
(as we wrote 'del')
- put large signs in the clusters warning users not
to 'compress' when they're near or over their quota
else:
- hope increase in default quota (from 600-1200K) delays
the day most users will hit the problem -- to give us
more time to find/implement a solution
