System name: quiche-lorraine.mit.edu
Type and version:	i686 9.1.17 (with mkserv)
Display type:

Shell: /bin/athena/tcsh
Window manager: sawfish

What were you trying to do?
typed "setenv HOME\n"

What's wrong:
tcsh aborts and window disappears. also confirmed by kolya, who says:

looks like a bug in tcsh (it's more obvious when you run tcsh again
in your window and see it crash when you type the command). doesn't
happen in other, non-athena versions of tcsh for me, though; file a
bug report?

What should have happened:
I think HOME should become unset.
