RE: Mathematica Help

Hi,

I am a grad student in the ORC. We have a bunch of Linux computers
there and I've been trying to ssh into Athena to run Mathematica. I
can get Mathematica to run, but there is a problem with the fonts as
documented below:

------------------------------------------------------
the problem is with the Mathematica install [i don't think you can set
an environment variable or anything]. specifically, the file in the
Mathematica installation:

  SystemFiles/FrontEnd/TextResources/X/Specific.tr

look for the line with 'maxForXListFonts' and increase the number max
number of fonts to something reasonable for today's workstations. for
example:

  @@resource maxForXListFonts
  9600

in other words, this bug should probably go to athena, since they are
the only ones who can fix it. i believe this issue is documented on
wolfram's site.

---------------------------------------------------

Tim,

The solution is to contact Athena and see if they will fix the problem
with their installation of Mathematica. I'm flying a bit blind here
becuase I don't have access to the athena filesystem so I can't
actually check, but I've run into this [seemingly] exact problem
before.

You can point them at this [1].

best,
michael
