The zctl man page is inaccurate. The description of realm-announced,
and net-visible says:
realm-visible
The user is registered with Zephyr. User loca-
tion information is retained by Zephyr and made
available only to users within the user's Ker-
beros realm. No login or logout announcements
will be sent. This is the system default.
Default subscriptions and any additional per-
sonal subscriptions will be entered for the
user.
net-visible
The user is registered with Zephyr. User loca-
tion information is retained by Zephyr and made
available to any authenticated user who requests
such. Login and logout announcements will be
sent only to users within the user's Kerberos
realm who have explicitly requested such via
subscriptions. Default subscriptions and any
additional personal subscriptions will be
entered for the user.
I kinited with a non ATHENA.MIT.EDU principle and put aatharuv on that
user's .anyone . After running znol, I was able to receive login
announcements for aatharuv@ATHENA.MIT.EDU when setting my exposure to
all three of realm-announced, net-visible, and net-announced. Though
last is to be expected, with the former two exposures, my non-athena
principle shouldn't have been able to sub to receive such
announcements of my login. I was connected to arilinn.
Thus, it appears that effectively, net-visible and net-announced are
identical.
