What were you trying to do?
I was trying to print a document. The story is this: I wrote the document on my computer at home (hp pavillion notebook, running debian/unstable on a custom kernel with openafs) with the debian version of openoffice.org, and printed to file (21l.ps was the name), and then cp'd the file to my athena directory. I was dialed in (on no-knife), so I ran "lpr -Phomer 21l.h" in my ssh session. The zephyrgram came up saying it was sucessful less than 2 seconds after I sent the command, which made me suspicious. I needed to get to class in 14N, so I decided to not get the printout from 66 (I doubt it printed), so I went to the cluster in the basement of building 4, and tried to print there 3 or 4 times, getting the "print sucessful" z-gram, but lpq showing the document removed from the que. I tried renaming the file, then I tried opening in gv and printing straight from there, but it didn't work. I then went to the cluster in the basement of building 4, tried the same tricks a!
s above (on an sgi o2), and also tried saving the file to a different name from within gv, but that didn't work. Finally, I asked -c tetazoo for help, and was told to use the program ps2ps, which, after I added the right locker, "fixed" my ps file, and it printed. The commands that worked (original filename in this case was ok.ps, i changed it again):
$add ghostscript
$ps2ps ok.ps ok-2.ps
$lpr ok-2.ps
In case it makes a difference, the file I "printed" contained some highlighting (and thus color) that I had forgotten to remove. I've moved the files (broken and fixed) to my Public directory.
What's wrong:
lpr didn't work on a postscript file.
What should have happened:
It should have printed. It gave me the "print sucessful" zephyr, but nothing came out; lpq showed that the job was removed.
Please describe any relevant documentation references:
I referenced the helpful sipb members on zephyr class tetazoo.
