Yes. Your diagnosis is probably correct.
Unfortunately there are no more recent versions of RealPlayer for Unix.
And I don't just mean there are no more free versions. I mean no more. In
fact, if you now go to Real's site you will have trouble finding a page
that ever admits they made a Unix version in the past at all. You can no
longer download them.
I would be very interested in any sort of alternate legal approach in Unix
for handling these media types, but I suspect, like QuickTime, the format
is locked up tight. (Apparently any time a Unix hacker tries to make
something that plays the Sorensen codec, Apple either changes the format
or sues them.)
