can't view 'Essential RS/1' in 'athenadoc'

A user reported today that he couldn't view all of the "Essential RS/1"
document with viewdoc. I tried it and found it true. Details below.

Question:
I am trying to read rs1.ess.PS in /mit/athenadoc using viewdoc, it will
only let me see part of the file and then issues an error message saying:
/mit/athenadoc/.vaxpostps: sysmsg: broken token in parser. aborting..
What's the deal?

Single-stepped through the document. Got to page 9, but when I
went to page 10 only this text was displayed:

Within the Editor, you enter into another dialog, in which you are prompted....
RS/1 now replaces the screen with two separate regions: the upper screen,
which displays

and the system message:

/mit/athenadoc/.vaxpostps: sysmsg: broken token in parser. aborting...
was printed at my Unix prompt. Pressing [NEXT] once more got the END OF FILE
page, plus more copies of the system message.

tried viewdoc on rs1.ess.PS again and it bombed in exactly the same place and wa
y;
tried it on athena.workstation.PS and it worked just fine
so it looks as though the problem is between the viewer and the source for
'Essential RS/1.'
