What were you trying to do?
Play sound in Matlab using the following commands from within Matlab:
	>> load handel
	>> soundsc(y)

What's wrong:
On Linux, only a loud, screeching sound is produced; on a Sun, it
        plays.

I verified that sound will play correctly on the machine in question (xmms
plays mp3's properly).

Interestingly, when this is run on a Linux machine and displayed on a Sun, the
sound plays OK. I contacted the Mathworks and they supplied this less than
satisfying reply-

>I could not find a local Linux machine to reproduce your problem but had
>contacted the people in development to find out about the quality of sound
>data that is shipped with MATLAB for Linux.
>
>They say that the data files for UNIX platforms are very primitive and they
>feel that it might not be a problem with your hardware. They are in the
>process of improving the quality of sound for future releases of MATLAB for
>Linux.

I'm not convinced that this gets us off the hook on possible Linux sound
misconfiguration. Could someone please take a look at it? Please cc any reply
to asanka who reported the problem to me.

What should have happened:
	Should have heard Handel.
