Well, first and foremost I wanted this working on my (RH 6.1)
laptop..  Considering that none of the hosts that I use have
OpenSSH installed, it's challenging to test it as-is.

Perhaps, now that you know the issue, you could to a pro-active
test on the OpenSSH code and see if it has this problem?  If you need
an account on an affected machine, I can give you one.
