   The essential rs1 has a bug on page 10.  a user had it abort.  It didn't
   abort for me, but it didn't print beyond the first paragraph of page 10,
   stopping mid-sentence.  An illegal character hiding in there, maybe?

What didn't abort?  A printing job?  A previewer?

   I don't know whether we're still on the backup athenadoc locker (which,
   by the way, is lacking essential messages) or if we're home again.

"Essential messages"?  Please explain more concisely.  Do you mean it
should contain important current messages about stuff like the power
shutdown?  That it's missing some sort of "README" file?  Or missing a
document called "Essential Messages"?
