Guiding principle: All binaries in the Athena Workstation standard search path
should have corresponding manual pages.
Attached is a list of files which are in directories specified by the standard
Athena search path ($athena_path), but which have no man pages in the 6.1C
/usr/man tree. This list was created by using 'whereis -u -m *' in each of the
standard search path directories. I have added a few comments in the body of
the list.
There is an interesting problem with the files /usr/ucb/e and /bin/e. Each
invokes a text editor, but not the same one: /usr/ucb/e invokes /usr/ucb/ex,
while /bin/e invokes /bin/ed. It appears that /usr/ucb/e may be a copy, rather
than a symbolic link; is its presence an historical error? This needs clearing
up in order to do the Right Thing with regard to an e(1) man page. Unix
historians and wizards, please respond.
/usr/athena/listmaint and /usr/athena/moira have man pages of zero length. Not
only is this less than informative, but xman crashes when it trys to display
null pages (naturally, the fault lies with xman, but I for one am not surprised
that xman doesn't check for this). Anyway, could the Moira team send or point
me to the correct man page sources for these two programs?
Finally, if anyone can supply or point me to the correct man page sources for
any of these binaries, please contact me. Thanks much.
Be seeing you...
