What were you trying to do?
What's wrong:
File operations don't happen correctly using the version of perl
on this machine.
What should have happened:
I did
cd /mit/ekogan/nlp/ps2
./generate_corpora.pl 1000000 > corp.A
this should have generated a file consisting of a million randomly chosen
lowercase words. However, the file generated contained some uppercase and
non-printable characters.
I tried to remove the erroneous upper-case characters using the command line:
perl -i -pe 'tr/A-Z/a-z/' corp.A
which does lowercase the upper-case characters which were present, but
introduces other ones in random places in the file.
