Indeed. "fixed" by reverting to the previous situation, for which
the workaround is no longer necessary.

Unfortunately, it looks like the gnuplot locker is still not
ATHENA_SYS_COMPAT aware (i.e. the "gnuplot" wrapper script doesn't use
athdir), so when we get a new sysname, something is likely to break again...
