Hi,
Thanks for reporting this. As it turns out, it was caused by a
custom X configuration on the machine where the grad student tried to
register. xfs was configured to put 100dpi fonts in your font path
before 75dpi fonts. This isn't the case for cluster machines, and isn't
the result you get when you run Xconfigurator on a 9.0 machine.
I tweaked xregister to explicitly put the 75dpi fonts first in
its font path, and released the volume. Enjoy.
