These bugs are fixed (in a different way) in the syslogd.c in the
official 4.3bsd-tahoe release. The syslogd.c in Zephyr is based on the
pre-tahoe version from LCS.

We're not using 4.3bsd-tahoe. We're using the version in the Zephyr
locker, and it's broken, and it needs to be fixed before the release
goes out.
Unless you want to write zephyr into the 4.3bsd-tahoe sources between
6.1C and 6.1D :-)
