I was able to reproduce this, though not reliably. The problem seems to stem from our recent change to improve xss' handling of non-existent hacks. That change is causing xss to keep trying to spawn the hack, once per second. I am not sure how that resulted in the screen getting wedged, but that problem no longer occurred when I tried preventing it from respawning. I could not reproduce the failure to re-enter the xscreensaver option in control center, but with any luck that problem will no longer be relevant when we correct the respawning problem. I will submit a patch with the fix. Bob
