It occurs to me that I could add a footnote for the "why do we care"
department. On the two machines I observed this on, I only saw the error
message for line 54; notably, I did not see it again for line 80. This
could imply that /etc/rc3 is erroring out before the entire script has
run, but I didn't spend enough time to nail down whether this is the case.
