What were you trying to do?
Run mouseconfig or Xconfigurator as part of the install.
What's wrong:
Both of them are based on the same code which can't properly read
/etc/sysconfig/mouse.
What should have happened:
Automagic configuration of X and the mouse.
Please describe any relevant documentation references:

to the latest updated versions of Xconfigurator and
mouseconfig.
