Hi,

In the context of trying to fix a Private Athena Workstation that
can't read CDs, I tried to read a "Solaris 2.2 on Sun Hardware
AnswerBook" CD that I had lying around.

It reads fine on an old Sparc 20 running SunOS 4.1.4, but when I tried
it in an Ultra5 running Athena 8.4.22, vold seemed to know that a disk
was inserted, but wasn't able to do more than read the label.

  yoda-wccf.mit.edu# ls -lR /cdrom/
  /cdrom/:
  total 4
  lrwxrwxrwx   1 root   nobody   18 Apr 17 19:25 cdrom0 -> ./solaris_2_2_abhw
  dr-xr-xr-x 2 nobody nobody 512 Apr 17 19:25 solaris_2_2_abhw

  /cdrom/solaris_2_2_abhw:
  total 0

(The above is actually what was left in the directory after the CD was
successfully ejected.)

I tried this on a private Athena box and then I tried it on a public
Athena box. This time, I got a message on the console window to the
effect that the "udfs" file system was unrecognized.

This brings up several questions, but the main one is did something
change recently with vold or rmmount that might have caused this
problem?

The original context is on a system that is burning its own HSFS CDs
for backup purposes and then can't read them to verify the backup.

Thanks,

	--Tom
