This problem is fixed - somewhat. Certainly I don't get the Netscape
errors anymore. You should see the improvement in Netscape immediately,
NOT tomorrow; the java_v1.3.0 locker has been released manually.

Alex said the Netscape part of the problem was because of a stray Netscape
6 plugin which didn't get along with Netscape 4.

We still know that 1.3.0_01 Java has some issues, some of which may or may
not be related to which Sun system patches have been applied. We're
looking into that.

We also don't know yet whether this affects the problem Steve Turner
reported. Steve, would you let Alex know if it does?

Further comments from Alex, which some of you have already seen:

"We've made some changes in the java_v1.3.0 locker that make the Netscape
Java startup errors go away but we're not sure if these have fully fixed
the problem.

"The one applet that uses the plugin and Java 1.3 explicitly that we have
handy still errors with security-authentication error messages.

"Could those of you who can run applets that a) use the plugin and b)
require Java 1.3 please try them out now and let me know if they work? I
think other plugin applets (using Java < 1.3) should work OK but let me
know if they don't."
