On IS-Linux boxes (alice-whacker and rat-thing), if you try to ^Z
a matlab process, it hangs, sucks down all the CPU cycles, and
needs to be kill -9'd to get rid of it.  This happens in both X
and tty modes, local and remote logins.  I tried this on the sipbtest
account and my own, so it's not a configuration issue.  I did the
same thing on a Solaris box (interstitial-spaces), and it worked
fine.
