informative than that...)

What were you trying to do?
select a parent directory in the "open file" window. That is,
I'm currently in, say,
/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/b/o/boojum/www/Cthulhu/Pix.
Clicking on the directories in the left window (the one
labeled "Directories" works fine to go both up and down the
tree. However, there's a bar above this, which lists the
current directory as well as all its parents. I select the
parent two levels up,
/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/b/o/boojum/
and things hang.
What's wrong:
Everything stops responding. the mouse moves the cursor, but
that's it. I'm impatient, so I only waited about a minute
before rebooting.
What should have happened:
It should have changed directory to the appropriate place. I
would not be surprised by this behavior if I had selected /afs
instead, but it's ill-behaved of it to try and get to my
selection by going downward from the top level.
