transgif calls this particular perl binary:
/afs/athena/contrib/perl/arch/@sys/bin/perl
which happens to be the wrong format:
athena% file /afs/athena/contrib/perl/arch/@sys/bin/perl
/afs/athena/contrib/perl/arch/@sys/bin/perl: Linux/i386 demand-paged executable (QMAGIC), stripped
athena% /afs/athena/contrib/perl/arch/@sys/bin/perl -e 'print "foo";'
/afs/athena/contrib/perl/arch/@sys/bin/perl: Exec format error. Binary file not executable.
What should have happened:
