This problem was caused by a bug in the IRIX portmap program, which
caused the program to die on m4-035-7 and a number of our other SGI
machines. portmap is a service which provides a mapping of program
numbers to port numbers for RPC-based applications, such as File
Alteration Monitor; those applications do not run properly when
portmap is not running.

[m4-035-7 and other affected machines have been rebooted, and so
should now be functioning properly.]

We are working with SGI on getting a patch for the bug, which we
expect we will be able to deploy soon.

Thank you for reporting this.

Bob
