Possible problem with Linux Athena video auto-config

I got a call today from someone in Cluster Services who says that some
of the Linux Athena systems are not properly configuring their video.
By this they mean that X is not running at all. (As opposed to
unrelated reports of the screen resolution not being what is desired.)
There is a system that is consistently doing this, and it will be
dropped off to my office in W92 in the next day or so.
