Indeed, I responded to this earlier (see bugs[18049]).  I assumed Nick
was getting back to the user with state.  Are you dealing now, or do you
want me to reply directly to the user?

Maplesoft got back to me today, for what it's worth:

and I told Nick that if he thinks it's worth it, he could write this up
for an OLC stock answer on known Maple bugs, with interim advice being
to play with how terms with fractional powers are combined...and of
course to doublecheck results.
