Why does sendmail think my alias database is out of date.

I can answer some of your questions. I will, and I suggest further
that you come by and tickle the machine and find out its exact state.
The machine is oglala.mit.edu, an RT. It should have the standard
sendmail and aliases things as installed. I have not touched them, as
far as I know. (I do remember an update a long time ago that broke
the aliases stuff, but I think the fix put me in sync with everyone,
but this will have to be checked.)
I discovered this condition when I happened to look in
/usr/spool/mqueue/syslog. After every logged startup of sendmail was
the message that the aliases file was out of date. Here is a tail of
the file as it is right now:
