What were you trying to do?
I was trying to import a 1942x1296 image into Framemaker.
What's wrong:
Framemaker uses my home directory as temporary scratch
space for large files. The document I'm working on is in
/tmp and the image is in /tmp, but framemaker pushes me
over quota because it's manipulating files in my homedir.
% ls -l .fmU0iqM0k.31h/
total 7375
-rw-r--r-- 1 jmorzins mit 133 Apr 12 12:31 1.printerlist
-rw-r--r-- 1 jmorzins mit 7550628 Apr 12 12:32 2.tmpfilter
-rw-r--r-- 1 jmorzins mit 0 Apr 12 12:33 4.fmvfmi
What should have happened:
Framemaker should use either /tmp or /var/tmp as scratch
space. That's what they're for.
Please describe any relevant documentation references:
While reading through /mit/frame_v5.5.6/bin/maker ,
I noticed that it used to set a TMPDIR when users ran it.
Curious, I tried setting the environment variable TMPDIR
before I ran maker. The variable worked -- framemaker
stored its temporary files in the directory I specified.
Please edit the "maker" script so that it again sets a
TMPDIR variable before starting framemaker. (It may also
be a good idea to let Adobe know that it is inappropriate
to use a user's homedir as scratch space.)
