So, it sounds like audiocontrol blocks termination signals, grabs the
X server, and makes an RPC call which goes off into space. We
probably can't get that fixed, unfortunately. One little problem with
my theory:

Getting rid of the audiocontrol process should terminate its
connection to the X server and get rid of the grab. Are you sure you
actually made the process go away?
