This is because mkserv also renames inetd.conf to inetd.conf.old
before editing it. This bug has existed since the beginning of time,
as far as I know. It hasn't been fixed because it's not obvious what
the right answer is.

/etc/athena/login/config is not considered a configfile by the update
process. Any changes you make will be reverted by every update,
regardless of whether the file changed. We could change that, of
course, if you want. (Despite living in /etc and having the name
"config", /etc/athena/login/config is more of a platform-dependent
script than a true configuration file, but there are some reasons to
want to change it.)
