This problem is definitely related to the use of the Internet Keywords
setting. Debby and I had bad information earlier. The thing to do is to
turn Internet Keywords OFF. That makes far more sense. As noted, I had
never gotten this problem ... because I have always kept it turned off. I
turned IK on and poof, a reproducible problem!
Craig Counterman reminds me that we had seen this problem some time back.
Internet Keywords has been turned off by default for over two months, but
some people may still have "legacy" settings in their local preferences.js
file.
With Internet Keywords off, typing 'cnn' by itself in the Location line
gets you www.cnn.com.
With IK on, it gets you
http://web.mit.edu/search.htmlkeyword/cnn
A little mystery here - http://web.mit.edu/search.html is no longer in the
default Netscape settings ANYWHERE, nor is it in my local prefs anywhere -
so where is that URL coming from? We'll check that, but the point is, turn
IK off.
Netscape-fix should also turn IK off if you choose to run it.
