jim gettys told me today that he has heard rumors of complaints about
the kerberos protocol's having "word-alignment problems".
this is true.
in the same vein, mark rosenstein points out that kerberos' data formats
should also put variable-length fields at the end of messages, so that
fixed-length fieldsmay more readily be aligned.
these are really fairly minor performance issues, according to jon rochlis,
but i think we should fix these things, because they're political
ammunition for kerberos' detractors, and since they're cheap to fix,
if we're changing the protocol/code anyway.
jennifer steiner thinks they're worth fixing, because this would
make the protocol that much more elegant, and thus easier to work with.
