named.run is for debugging information.  Normally named doesn't log
debugging information unless it gets a SIGUSR1.  So yes, named is in
some sort of debug mode, and I don't know why it would be.

If you could check /var/adm/messages for any relevant-looking log
messages, I'd appreciate it.  Other than that, I'd say restart named
and make sure it's not still generating /etc/named.run entries.  The
8.3.10 patch release will in fact downgrade us to BIND 8.1.2, so if
this is the result of yet another BIND 8.2 problem, it should go away
with the next patch release (Monday evening).

Thanks for the bug report.  This BIND upgrade gets better all the
time.
