I suspect there something more insidious going on. The dialups (which
are suns running 8.2.17) each have between 50 and 300 user directories
in /var/athena/tmphomedir.
None of the directories appear to be currently mentioned in /etc/passwd.
At least one of the users listed appears from the timestamps
to have regularly used his 8 different tmphomedirs and yet his server,
tantalus, has not been down.
