Interesting, I get the two different behaviors from a sun depending on
whether the printserver is an old DECstation, or one of the current
ops servers.  Is it possible that you were trying to print through
different printservers on your different attempts?

That could just be because they are all running the same code.
However, in this case I would be tempted to look at the server first.

Right now, there is an effort to replace our current print server
software entirely.  As a result of that, we're not currently spending
effort on trying to debug non-critical problems in the current
software.  If you want to track down this bug, feel free, but don't
expect us to get to it ourselves (at least not before we see if
replacing the server software makes it magically disappear.)
