I just found the display can be turned off all the way; the magic is
'View'->'Hide Personal Toolbar'. I don't know if deleting the
toolbar permanently is possible, but with display turned off, it just
might not come back. (It's 1:30, I'm too lazy to check ;) If not,
you can make an empty folder and set it to the toolbar folder (in the
'Edit Bookmarks' window, 'View'->'Set as Toolbar Folder'
Sorry if I've repeated anything that was already said, just happened
to run across this and remembered that there had been a thread about
this that happened to have been flushed from my mental cache :)
