At any rate, I wrote back to rutledge advising him to quit Netscape
when he leaves an SGI idle for extended periods (figuring that's safer
than telling him to get longer-life tickets and tokens), but I still
wouldn't mind hearing any general advice/caveats for private
workstation folks who like to stay logged in perpetually.
Todd: the "AFS-hosage mystery" I referred to is when an AFS fileserver
is taken down by an SGI workstation where a user is logged in, but
long gone. My understanding is that that the problem hasn't yet been
isolated, but is tied to token expiration (and Netscape has always
been found running on the culprit workstation). Some recent notes are
in [1548] and [1554] of the release mtg.
I don't know why Netscape should crash for him rather than just giving
the usual sort of afs access-denied complaints, but I don't suppose
that's any more suprising that a Netscape crash ever is.
