I have personally suspended (with kill -STOP) the bugme process and
things proceed exactly as I described them. In fact, I've made
exactly the mistake I described in my email. So I can confirm it is
possible.
I believe you are incorrect about the setting of XSESSION on a
quickstation, but I can't check it right now.
