Yes, I believe we've seen this problem before, and have also seen it
at logout time. I think what's going on is that the hacked SGI xdm is
misbehaving some of the time; alternatively, we could be giving it the
wrong stimuli some of the time. It's hard to tell, since it's a large
mass of code which I can only access under rather inconvenient
conditions, so I can't easily instrument it or debug it.
