What were you trying to do?
start xterm from my windowmanager (vtwm.gamma)
What's wrong:
though the program starts, and is listed in the process table,
a considerable period of time elapses between when I press F3 (the key
binding I use) and when the xterm actually appears. I haven't timed it
exactly, but it seems to be longer than a full minute. xterms started
at the athena prompt consistently start correctly. The machine is under
very little load.
What should have happened:
xterm should connect to the X display and map itself immediately.
