I've been living with this problem ever since the SGI's first came
out, and while it annoys me somewhat (particularly,
~/.desktop_indy/athenahosts annoys me), I typically just rm
~/.desktop-* every so often... (it's a good thing I don't use the
emacs `desktop' package, I suppose. :-)
.desktop-steve-dallas won't disappear when Karl logs out because Karl
has a custom .xsession file, and, being a smart, paranoid guy, he
doesn't leave his authentication around after he's ready to log out.
At least, that's what I seem to recall finding when I looked around
when the same thing happened to me.
