Type and version:	IP22 8.1.8
Display type: NG1

What were you trying to do?

Compile a program for more than one platform, but that's not
important right now. I created a directory (with gtar) on
  steve-dallas, an 8.1.8 SGI. I compile the program, fix a problem I
  had with configuring it, etc.

Then I log into infocalypse (8.1.9 sparc 5), and try to compile the
  program

What went wrong?

  the directory isn't there:

  on the sgi:

     ; ls -ald /afs/sipb.mit.edu/user/yandros/project/rc-1.5b2
     drwxrwxr-x 3 yandros 101 4096 Sep 1 00:30 /afs/sipb.mit.edu/user/yandros/project/rc-1.5b2

  on the sun:

     ; ls -ald /afs/sipb.mit.edu/user/yandros/project/rc-1.5b2
     /afs/sipb.mit.edu/user/yandros/project/rc-1.5b2 not found

This situation continued even after `fs checkv'. `fs flush .' in
the parent directory (~yandros/project) rectified things.

What should have happened?

AFS should have noticed that I changed the volume on the other
  machine and updated the cache.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Yeah, if AFS gets to be so bad that we decide to go back to
dedicated timesharing machines, I'd like to be on the server named
`teela-brown', because, a) we have the same last name, and b) she's
the coolest character in the book.

  Thanks.
