Subject: Suddenly my netscape mail client stopped working.
Date: Tue, 26 Aug 1997 22:42:21 EDT
From: Jan Meyer <janm@MIT.EDU>

Hi folks,

I hope I got the right eMail address with you. If not please forward this eMail to anyone who could help me. In that case sorry for bothering you.

The problem is as follows:

When ever I start up the Mail client of Netscape Navigator 4.0, the navigator and the mail client crash. That means all netscape windows close quickly and I get an error message.

Under the Sun Sparqstations I get the error message "Bus error", whereas the Indy stations tell me: "Segmentation fault - core dumped". Besides that the Console window of an indy station show the following message when the mail client starts up:

21:48 Mozilla40: program is version 4.01b6, but resources are version 1.0S.
21:48
21:48 This means that there is an inappropriate `Netscape' file installed
21:48 in the app-defaults directory. Check these environment variables
21:48 and the directories to which they point:
21:48
21:48 $XAPPLRESDIR
21:48 $XFILESEARCHPATH
21:48 $XUSERFILESEARCHPATH
21:48
21:48 Also check for this file in your home directory, or in the
21:48 directory called `app-defaults' somewhere under /usr/lib/.

What makes it really strange is that I could work with the mail client a couple of days ago. I also remember getting the same message in the console window.

I would like to ask you if you can work with that client or if you have any other hints for me.

Thanks.

Yours

    Jan
