The only chmod's I can find around (looking on the RT packs) are in
the 6.0B-specific scripts. The machines that are losing were
installed as 6.0C. It's probably a bug in the install scripts, but
regardless of that, its effects are present in some 6.0R machines.
Anyways, Richard told me he put a chmod invocation into /etc/rc to
deal with the problem; this should suffice.
