The most common problem with xpaint starting is when you have a
netscape running or a colorful background. xpaint doesn't deal
gracefully with not being able to allocate the colors it wants.
If you quit netscape or run "xsetroot" to get rid of your background,
xpaint should start working again.
(SGIs don't have this problem, incidentally, since they have 24-bit
displays.)
