What were you trying to do?
log into an 8.0K sun with special login specified (F5).
What's wrong:
if you accidentally specify a non-existant executable. (for
example, xmj instead of xmh :) the console window returns the
expected error messages of
/usr/athena/bin/bugme: couldn't exec xmj (no such file or directory)
ERROR:
Xsession returned nonzero status.
select ignore your customizations, etc., etc.
however, it then drops you at the console login prompt as opposed
to the xlogin screen. it is easy to get back to the xlogin
screen, but you have to know enough to hit right key.
i'm writing up the quickstation stockanswers and was looking at
the quickstation docs. specifying a special login is listed as
one of the alternatives for not running customizations, so users
might run into this quite a bit on quickstations.
What should have happened:
it should have returned to the xlogin screen after the error.
Please describe any relevant references:
precedent. it does the right thing under 8.0J
cheers,
oliver
