Hi,
We have an NFS server in our house (TDC). Ever since its
creation, we have had trouble with using the group protections of group
tdc. Group tdc has ~ 45 entries. Some users in group tdc (8851) who
attach our house locker 'tdc' off of guinness are able to access file
that are group-read only, while other cannot. Everyone is in the
credentails file, and everyone (according to NFSC) gets a mapping to
group tdc.
The file /mit/tdc/tdc/test is such a group read-only file. I
created this file yesterday, then asked a number of users (in group TDC)
to try to access it. Here is a summary of what I got back:
Able to read file: gmbelaus, amkassir, blvoegl, bistro, gordo, dajablon
Unable to read file (permission denied): guess, cdcohen, ilh
Everyone who was unable to read the file has a mapping to group
tdc in the credentials file (dated 10/4), and has no problem attaching
tdc.
I am not sure what the problem is. Maybe one of our binaries is
out of date. I am unable to get anyone to committ to tell me what
'date-set' of binaries (or versions) really work with groups properly.
Everyone says "that that problem was fixed a long time ago".
For anyone who is interested in taking a look, the following NFS
exports are available:
guinness:root /
guinness:site /site
tdc /site/mit/tdc
Also, access is currently on on this machine.
Thanks,
Greg
