Nitpick: in the past, "-a off" eliminated the need to have to kinit
after logging in, not the need to type a login name. On correctly
functionining platforms, you should not have to type a login name
whether or not you use "-a off".

That said, yes, there is a bug in the Athena login program such that,
on System V systems, you must type your username unnecessarily. I've
been slow in fixing the problem because I have plans to completely
revamp the login source (which is probably the worst piece of code in
our entire tree, now that we don't build AFS for the release), but
because the new login library won't be ready for the 8.1 release, I
may have a go at fixing this particular bug.
