Just to continue beating a dead horse (and a silly looking one at
that), if you look a little further up in the code, you will find this
problem has already been solved with buf. Since the buf1 code appears
to have originally been ripped off from the buf code (before this
problem was fixed in the buf code itself), it would be neat if they
were consistent.
Additionally, the "\n" Bruce adds in his last patch needs to be added
to the buf code as well.
